It''s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

I know you've all seen the Staples commercials where the mom gleefully pushes the cart of back-to-schoool supplies and her reluctant children trod along behind her... Yep, it's that glorious time once again! Harrison went off on the bus this morning for his first day of second grade! Sawyer will be in Pre-K this year, which doesn't start until after Labor Day - but the house is already feeling more quiet, and sane (as a point of reference last week I had puzzle pieces thrown in the toilet, knock down fights over what to watch on the t.v. and an almost broken toe when my boys decide to jump off their beds and slam dunk the Nerf ball into the hoop.) We were all ready for school to start again ;)

Unfortunately, after I took photos of my son boarding the bus, I stuck the camera on top of the hood of the stroller, and then forgot it was there. It fell crashing to the pavement, and now is in need or repair or replacement (I'm secretly hoping this will be an excuse to buy a new camera!)

So in the meantime, and in the spirit of the most wonderful time of the year - here are some fall Polyvore sets.

I caved and ordered the Southward Stop Dress over the weekend. I also ordered the belt even though it was on backorder, because it was just too cute not to.

I can't wait for some online reviews of the Loosely Looped Tee. Such a cute, dressed up basic!

J. Crew had their extra 20% off sale promo again, and I finally picked up the Coralie Cami, that I've admired forever. I have a similar skirt from Banana that I plan to try and recreate this outfit with.

Hopefully, I'll be able to replace my camera this week and get some actual OOTD posted!

The Compeer Is Better Than It's Peers

I was delighted when the Compeer Dress was marked down so quickly at Anthropologie. Except for the one tiny detail that the sales price was the equivalent of most full-price dresses on their website. I made a deal with myself that I would order the dress, but only keep it if I love, loved it.

Well, it was definitely love when I opened the box. The color, the material, the length...pretty much everything about this dress was perfect. It blew my other recent dress purchases out of the water in terms of construction. As for the fit, it is a smidge roomy and on the low-cut side for me, but still works.

For kicks, I tried it on with the Hallowed Halls Oxfords like it appears in the catalog. The orange and black may be a bit to Halloween for me though...

I've made up my mind that this dress will be the perfect thing to wear when we celebrate my youngest son's first birthday in October. But, I need your help - how would you ladies wear this dress in the Fall? What color tights? What color cardi? What shoes? Or boots?

Oh. And speaking of boots. When I saw my size was backordered, it sent me into panic mode and I hastily placed an order for the Bowtied-Beauty Boots. I'm worried after reading the reviews on how tall these boots actually are. I hope they work. I want to fall in love, love again!

But back to the Compeer. Fall Ideas? Pretty please with bows on top?

They Make It So Easy

Other bloggers the whole Internet over are making it so easy for me to get dressed in the morning. Why? You ask. Because I simply pull out the very same pieces I saw looking cute on them and viola! I'm ready to go without having to mix or match anything on my own. I have never been one to reinvent the wheel ;)

This first outfit features a dress I had pretty much given up on. All the reviews and photos I saw for the Know the Ropes Dress indicated that it ran quite large, and it seemed no one who saw it in real life loved it. I adored the colors and pattern since the moment it appeared on the website, but decided I'd have to pass on it because of sizing. Then Cat posted photos last month wearing the dress with alterations and I was sold! I knew it would be worth the effort and small amount of money to make the dress fit - it was really just too cute on her! Of course, the moment I decided to pull the trigger I couldn't actually find one in my size. Anywhere. But once again, thanks to the help Roxy's blog/The Weekend Community Post, I was able to score one when it popped back on someones wishlist. The best news? The dress had been even further reduced and I got it for only $29.95!

Four days at the dry cleaners and it was ready to wear! I wore this over the weekend to visit my brother and sister-in-law who recently moved back to DC. It was so cool and comfortable even walking for blocks in the hot city.

Next is the totally feminine and pretty outfit that Sara put together with the Blooming Lattice Cardigan and Alena Skirt. I was in love when she wore this, and knew when I could pick the cardi up on sale and recreate it, I would!

However, picking the cardigan up on sale turned out to be quite the fiasco! The store I ordered it from never actually mailed my package :( Even though the sweater had been charged to my credit card! They corrected the charge, but didn't have another one in my size to send out. I was left to scour around and find a replacement. By this time it was weeks after the item had been marked down, so I was very happy to be able to find one in my size. Especially, with it being so popular. I shudder to think my closet could have gone without it! This is what I wore to church this morning, but promptly peeled off the moment I got home - it might be rainy and gloomy in PA, but the humidity is still trying to kill me.

OOTD - Weave the Ring

I am really glad I didn't miss my chance with this skirt. I'm also glad I put my judgements against the Keds brand (I wore their white tennies all the time in elementary school!) aside and tried the Spright Wedges after seeing how cute they were on Lisa.

And I have to share a funny story about when I purchased this skirt. I hadn't tried it on in the past because I feared it would be too long and overwhelming, but I loved it and wanted it to work badly. The fitting room attendant happened to knock on my door when I was trying this piece on, and I showed her and expressed my concerns. To which she looked me over and said "This skirt doesn't make you look small at all. Really, you don't look small in it" It wasn't exactly the way I was hoping she'd encourage the purchase, lol, but I took it to mean she didn't think I looked too short to pull it off. I mean, I hope she was talking length and not width....

Today I am off to the dry cleaners and a quick jaunt at Target before my dad arrives from Canada this afternoon. At least if we're out of the house for a bit there is less chance of my boys wrecking the place. Again.

OOTD - Take Two!

Last week our family snuck away for a couple of days to The Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocono Mountains. After check-out we tried taking the boys to nearby Knobles Amusement Park, where we were unfortunately rained out early in the day. We promised the boys we'd take them back soon, and today we're making good on it. I threw my hair up and chose an outfit to keep cool in.

Was everyone able to score something pretty at the big Anthro sale this morning? I happily ordered the Vappu Dress, finally!

Red, White & Beda

When I saw a picture of Cindi in her Beda dress paired with the Green Thumb Belt, I about died from the cuteness. I knew I'd be buying the belt (bonus that it went on sale!) and copying her great outfit - here is what I wore to church on Sunday.

(please excuse the patch of dead grass I am standing in, clearly we are paying too much for lawn service...)

I thought taking pictures outside might provide better light/quality. But that wasn't the case. Sigh.

We had a very nice visit with my BIL/SIL and I have just enough time to recoup and change the sheets before my dad arrives from Canada on Thursday...

Good, Bad, Ugly & The Best for Last

Today has largely been spent preparing for my SIL & BIL 's visit from California. They will be meeting us at church tomorrow morning, spending the night and most of Monday with us. I really enjoy both of them, but in general house guests give me huge amounts of anxiety (cleaning the house, cooking for company, preventing my boys from showing off and being insane...) So I was happy to escape the impending reality and head to Anthropologie for a short stint this afternoon.

First for some good news - I have long admired the Weave the Ring skirt, but never tried it on because I assumed the length would look ridiculous on me. And then there it was today on the sale rack, and the moment I spied it I knew if it were my size I'd have to give it a chance. Fate. I think it actually fits me similarly to the Seabound Skirt. Yes, it is long. But I love it, and I don't even care. I can't wait to wear it with my Blooming Lattice Cardigan like other bloggers before me - so cute. And who knows, it might even see a second price cut in my 14 day price adjustment window - fingers crossed.

There wasn't too much good news following this find. Most of what I tried on today just didn't work for me. Starting with the Kirklees Sweater Coat (xs)

*I thought it looked drab IRL
*It itched (I'm really sensitive to wool)
*The sleeves were too long for me
*I absolutely hated the way it looked unbuttoned
*The cut was otherwise cute and there was room for winter clothes underneath
*The collar needed adjusting or it overlapped/layed funny (see pic)
*I do think the peter pan collar is perfectly sweet!

The sweater coat I was able to "get over" pretty quickly. However, I tried it on with the Cohort Corduroys (size 25) which I had very high hopes for. I imagined myself buying them in multiple colors. I dreamed they would fit like my ON boyfriend jeans and chinos and be an easy staple for Fall. Unfortunatly....

*The fit through the legs was tight, I felt like a sausage in them
*Very straight cut, not the boyfriend fit I had expected
*I had to cuff the bottoms so much they looked bulky
*The waist gaped
*Ugh. I hated them. End of story.

The Count the Waves Dress (xs)was another piece I wanted to love.
Actually, I did love it. Only it didn't love me back.

*Way too big everywhere. Top, Waist, Bottom
*Too long too
*The skirt felt surprisingly business like and structured paired with such a comfy top

I actually thought the Count the Waves was enormous on me. Until I tried the Curtain Call Dress(xs) What the Fudgsicles??? This dress was so (and I do mean SO) cute on the rack. Honestly, I held it up and it didn't look overwhelming in the least. This picture doesn't begin to tell the story. The sleeves were so large I could have flapped my arms and taken flight. And check out the hips I kid you not, I wanted to call the SA inside just to share the hilarity of this piece on me. I don't think this picture makes the dress look good, but trust me it looks about a million times better in this photo then it did IRL. Pity, because it was so (SO!) cute!!!

Okay, and the best for last. I knew when I had this skirt on something seemed "off" and duh, I had it askew (which was actually centered in this case) the whole time. But even so, I loved the White Noise Skirt (xs) Online it would never have caught my eye and it looks a lot bulkier in the product shot then it is IRL. I truly didn't want to take this piece off, it was cute as a button. The sweater construction will be so cozy come Fall. I definitely want to buy this skirt. And soon.

I don't wear pencil skirts, so this is a happy alternative for me. It reminds me a lot of the Twilit Skirt in color and cut, so if you missed out on that, you might want to consider this instead.

Like I said, you'll have to overlook my stupidity in how I centered the pleat. And note that you truly do snap yourself into this skirt with rows of buttons. I hope none of my boys tug too hard for my attention when I wear it....

So there you have it. I returned the $10 shift, my Looping Lanes Belt (I hoped they'd have one to exchange it with, but they did not) and the Montgolfier Skirt that I bought forever ago, but haven't worn yet - I never found a top I loved with it, and I couldn't fully commit to the bubble hem. I bought only the Weave the Ring Skirt. Which means to my credit, I actually did leave with a credit! Whoohoo!

Bargain

One afternoon when I was pursuing the sale section on Anthropologie's website, I stumbled upon the Peacoat Shift Dress. It wasn't the dress that caught my eye, but the $9.95 sales price. An Anthro dress for ten bucks? How could I not give it a try.
Of course now I'm torn, the dress is large and shapeless, and because of the buttons you can't really belt it. I'm guessing this is why it's been reduced to a basement bargain price.

The armholes are enormous. And it's linen, which equates to wrinkles.

BUT it was only $10.

I've changed into something else for today, but I thought I'd post these pictures in case anyone else sees this dress pop up and is curious about the fit. I'm going to try with all my might to get to the store tomorrow, and as of now, this is in my return pile.

OOTD - Musikfest

Today we piled the boys into the car and drove to Bethlehem, PA for Musikfest. We've been going every year, since our dating days and now it's a family event!

Fashion Trends & Styles - Polyvore

I was excited to break out my new Green Thumb belt, this belt is adorable and really stays in place.

And here is my big moment up on stage doing the Chicken Dance with Sawyer. He is usually a total ham sandwhich, but today, he froze in the spotlight and I was up there dancing like a fool, all by myself.

My favorite part of the afternoon was my corn on the cob smothered with parmasean cheese. You've got to try it sometime - YUM!

Happy Weekend!

Tagged & Pool Tags

Sorry I've been scarce this week! You've not missed anything, since everyday I've looked like some variation of this:

Lots of time spent at the pool this week, and getting dressed, after getting drenched, hasn't been happening.

I wanted to answer these fun tags though, since I've really enjoyed reading everyone else's answers this week. I was tagged by four fantastic bloggers, and for the sake of time (and the fact that I couldn't come up with good answers for some of them!) I'll be answering 1/2 of their questions :)

First up is the recently married Sara at You, Me & Anthropologie I'm impressed that Sara is so on the ball after just returning from her honeymoon!

1) If you could be on one reality TV show, what would it be and why?
I'm glad this isn't what reality show I should be on, because I'd be really embarrassed to appear on Super Nanny, even though my crazy family could probably use the help ;) I'm going to say I'd love to go on Say Yes to the Dress and buy a gown for a 10 year vow renewal. Actually, I think vow renewals are dumb (I should probably phrase that more politely...) but I LOVE wedding gowns, and I can't think of any other excuse to shop for a second one! When I got married, I went ultra conservative with my gown, and it was the first one I tried on! I regret not spending more time on the process, and the fact that I didn't wear something that played up my figure more - I just didn't have the confidence at the time...

2) If you could re-name yourself, what name would you choose (first name)?
Ahhh, I love names, I actually did try to rename myself Abigail once when I took piano lessons in middle school - I told the teacher that was my name, and my ever indulgent mother just rolled her eyes and went along with it! Anywho, I'd say Darby - I like that it's uncommon and has some spunk to it.

3) Would you rather give up your cell phone or shopping at your favorite store for a year?
So easy! Bye-Bye cell phone. I am like Wilma Flinstone with technology. I have an ancient flip phone, that I hardly use at all, and I have never sent a text message. I'm sure if I had something fancy with app's it would be much harder to give up ;)

4) Favorite fast food place?
Sonic. One just opened here a couple of months ago, and I love their lime-aids and tater tots.

Fellow boy mom, Michelle at The Quintessential Closet is up next, with her round of questions!

1) Choose one accessory to wear daily for the next year, a bag (be specific!), a necklace, or a scarf - what do you choose and why?
Well, I rarely switch purses anyway, so I'd go that route and pick something killer, like this Kooba Caitlin Tied Shoulder Bag - I think it's adorable, neutral and seasonless.

2) What keeps you up at night?
If I see even a commercial for a crime show (think CSI or Dateline Mystery) I will lay awake and imagine awful scenerios of our home being broken into, being kidnapped, attacked, etc. Of course, there is your usual worry about health, kids, etc. - but most of my sleepless tossing and turning comes from far-fetched, probably never happen in a million years kinds of things.

3) Name a TV show or movie that you love to watch, but you're ashamed to admit you watch?
I am a Real Housewives junkie!

4) Do you sacrifice comfort for fashion?
If I love an item enough, you betcha! I'll find a way to make it work, even if I have to freeze, pinch my toes or spend the night stuffed into my Spanx.

Debbie at Dark Horse almost stumped me with some of her questions!

1. What are your favorite song lyrics and why?
It's hard to choose! I'll narrow it down to three...
-Anything by Natalie Merchant/10,000 Maniacs; These are days, you'll remember. Never before and never since, I promise. Will the whole world be warm as this as you feel it. You'll know it's true that you are blessed and lucky.
-Even though I never listen to country music, I heard this song at a friends once and oh my goodness, the words just resonated with me! Trace Adkins, You're Gonna Miss This;
Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater Dog's barkin', phone's ringin' One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'She keeps apologizin' He says they don't bother meI've got 2 babies of my own One's 36, one's 23Huh, it's hard to believe But you're gonna miss thisYou're gonna want this back You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast These are some good times So take a good look around You may not know it now But you're gonna miss this You're gonna miss this Yeah, you're gonna miss this
-And finally, this song is my desire for myself, and my boys - Give me One Pure & Holy Passion
Give me one pure and holy passion. Give me on magnificent obsession. Give me one glorious ambition for my life To know and follow hard after You. To know and follow hard after you. To grow as your disciple in your truth. This world is empty, pale, and poor Compared to knowing you, my Lord Lead me on and I will run after you.

2. If you could be a character from a book for a day, who would you pick?
Tough choice, again! I'm going to have to go with my childhood favorites and say either Anne of Green Gables or Laura Ingalls.

3. What color best represents your personality?
I'll say pink, since I love girly, pretty things.

4. If you could have one talent that you don’t currently have, what would it be?
Singing. Hands down! I would love, love, love to be able to carry a tune. I would sing at church, to my babies, in the shower and loudly in the car!

Finally, the ever sweet Lori at Lori's Looks tagged me with this fun bunch of questions

1. If money were no object, what is the one thing you would buy right now?
Hmmm...I'll go big. A diamond anniversary band to be presented at my not-happening vow renewal ceremony ;)

2. What is the last book you read or are reading right now?
I positively love to read, but have been in a slump recently. I did buy The Guinea Pig Diaries, after loving The Year of Living Biblically, by AJ Jacobs. But I haven't read it yet.

3. If you had to describe yourself in one word, what word would that be?
Perceptive.

4. Do you consider the cup half empty or half full?
Half Empty. But thankfully, I'm married to a guy who's half full so it balances out :)

I know many girls have already been tagged, so I'll be looking for your answers soon! Thanks for the chance to play along!

Big Sale, Little Purchase

When I called to order the Airmail Skirt last week, on impulse, I truthfully wasn't sure that I would like it. The side panels are definitely unusual on a skirt and I wasn't sure if the cut would work for me. I thought the price was $50 when I ordered, turns out the skirt had a second markdown and was only $19.95! Wow, for that price, I pretty much love it!

Bow Tank - Ann Taylor Loft (old)
Airmail Skirt - Anthropologie
BP Stella Wedge - Nordstrom

As for the sale this morning, despite the extensive number of items that were marked down, there wasn't really anything I had to have. I'm still holding out for the Vappu and a couple of cardigans. I did grab these two cute accessories, but that's it!

We'll see how my willpower holds up as the day progresses....

ETA - 10am, and I already remembered my need for this cute top! I called CS and they said it was very low inventory for my size, but hooray - I found one in NJ!

OOTD - That's a {un} Wrap!

I bought this cute jersey wrap dress from H&M a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, it has a tendency to unwrap when I'm wearing it. Despite the internal tie, and my pinning it into place at the top, I still had to make constant adjustments throughout the day. My apologies to anyone I accidentally flashed at church....

I am not a girl who shies away from color, and I love the bright, fun orange of this dress. I do not worry about looking like a caution cone in orange.

Do you wear orange? I think it looks great with a tan in Summer, but I also love orange for Fall. Here are some orange pieces that I really hope to purchase....I just wish the Compeer Dress, would move to second markdown, immediately.
